Dads Get this Emotion Thing

The test certainly gave our materials a work out. And we learned a ton. For the details check out the Test Pilot post. One of the highlights of the test for me was talking with the dads. From our conversations with moms and experts we developed the hypothesis that dads really weren’t interested in dealing with emotion in a program like BUB, and they certainly wouldn’t seek this out.

This was confirmed when I ran the dads’ groups and they told me they were only there because their wives were friends with Kimmi. But once we got to talking about their emotions, it was like the release valve on a pressure cooker. The dads used the opportunity to vent and to talk about how their emotional expression, or lack of it, impacted their boys. The men admitted to being emotionally handicapped and would like to do something about it. Namely, have their wives sign them and their boys up for a program like BUB…and insist that they go.
